Dizziness is common. Try lying on your left side and drink 1–2 glasses of water. If symptoms persist or worsen, contact our office.
Is swelling normal during pregnancy?

Yes, mild swelling (edema) is normal. It’s caused by increased blood and fluid volume. To manage it:

  • Elevate your feet
  • Wear comfortable shoes and support stockings
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Limit sodium intake
If swelling appears suddenly or is accompanied by headache or vision changes, contact us right away.
What causes backaches and abdominal aches during pregnancy?
As your baby grows, you may experience back, pelvic, or stretching pains due to added pressure and joint loosening. Use heat, rest with feet elevated, practice good posture, and take Tylenol if needed.
How often do I need a Pap smear?
Routine Pap smears are recommended every 3 years starting at age 21. From age 30, we also perform HPV testing with your Pap. Screening continues until age 65.
If you have a history of abnormal Pap or HPV results, your provider will recommend a different screening schedule.
Do I need a yearly breast exam and mammogram?
Yes. You should have a clinical breast exam every year. Starting at age 40, we recommend a yearly mammogram.
When should I schedule my first prenatal visit?
You should schedule your first prenatal appointment as soon as you know—or suspect—that you’re pregnant. Early prenatal care is important for monitoring your health and your baby’s development. At Truesdale OBGYN, we typically see patients every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks from 28–36 weeks, and weekly after 36 weeks. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, we may recommend more frequent visits to ensure the best possible care for you and your baby.
