Pap Smear
Service Detail
Routine Cervical Cancer Screening
A Pap smear is a simple, effective screening tool that can detect cervical cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. We recommend beginning routine Pap smears at age 21 or when you become sexually active.
Why Pap Smears Matter:
Pap smears identify abnormal cervical cells caused by HPV, a common virus. Early detection leads to timely treatment, often before cancer develops.
Results & Follow-Up:
- Normal: No action needed
- Abnormal: May require follow-up Pap, HPV testing, or colposcopy
- Moderate to severe changes: Colposcopy and possibly a LEEP procedure
- Cancer: Immediate referral to a GYN oncologist
